Moli Langi’s Personal Biography

               Molitauoleava (Moli) Langi, the fourth oldest of six children, is the son of Touanga and Norma Langi, and was born in American Samoa on October 24, 1993. The career path that Langi had in mind throughout high school was directed towards Civil Engineering or Architecture. The reason for these two pathways was a combination of being fascinated with the art of creating something from scratch, and working on projects as a young boy with his father, who was a skilled carpenter. During the time Langi was in high school, he participated in multiple programs outside of school that were designed to help students further their knowledge on the professional fields of: Architecture, Construction, and Engineering. One notable accomplishment from Langi’s high school years, was that he was the only student in the programs, that were mentioned before, that participated as a judge for the top projects—as in, renovations, constructions, ect.—that were completed for the year of 2012.

               The Engineering or Architecture routes were the only ones that Langi thought about in high school; and he even felt that going to the University of Oregon or Oregon State University were his two best options as places to further education. But Langi instead applied to Brigham Young University (BYU), as a last minute decision, and was eventually admitted. After arriving at BYU, Langi had no idea what to major in for two years until coming across accounting; and now he is currently a pre-accounting student, that will apply to the School of Accounting in the summer of 2015. Langi decided to focus his efforts on business, because producing music has always been his passion; and to be able to understand how business works will be crucial in the process of becoming a CEO of a new record label, which is Langi’s dream job.

               To be able to run a record label, as well as any other business, one has to know how to be a leader. Even though the sample size for Langi’s work experience may be small, there is evidence of key leadership qualities. The first job that Langi held, he became the head student-supervisor over the other workers, whom were all students. The responsibilities of that position were: to make sure that the workers were safe at all times; to make sure that the workers are on task; to enforce disciplinary consequences to the workers, as needed; to distribute the workload among the workers; and to relay the message from the top of the “chain of command” to the workers. The second job that Langi held was a night-shift shelf stocker at Wal-Mart, where he learned how to work under pressure as a worker instead of a leader. The last job that he held was a campus job at BYU. Langi is currently not employed because he is focusing on school.
